Navigate the Explore tab
The Explore tab is where you build reports by selecting a root table and adding fields, filters, and display options. This guide explains how the Explore tab is structured and how to use the available tools to build a report.
In this article:
Explore tab overview
At the top of the page, the Explore tab (1) is highlighted in the navigation bar, indicating that you’re currently viewing the page.
In the Explore tab, the report opens with a preselected root table. The root table varies depending on the connector you’re using. Use the Root table selector (2), located near the upper-left of the report builder, to change the table the report is based on.
Next to the root table selector, use the Report format selector (3) to choose how the report is displayed, such as a table or chart format.
On the left side of the page, below the Root table selector, the Search box (4) helps you find fields in the Available fields pane (5).
The Selected fields pane (6) displays the fields you’ve added to the report. Select a field (7) from this pane to open its configuration options.
Above the report results area, select Add filter (8) to apply filters to the report.
After you add fields to the report, additional options appear above the results:
- Use the Sort by panel (9) to control how the results are ordered
- Use the Show grand total checkbox (10) to show or hide the grand total row
In the top-right corner of the page, select the Refresh, Export, or Save (11).
💡 The additional options that appear after you add fields vary depending on the report format. The options described above apply to the Table format.
Available fields pane overview
The Available fields pane lists the measures, dimensions, and related tables available for the selected root table. At the top of the pane, select + Create new (1) to create a custom field.
Related tables (2) appear as blue expandable folders. Select a related table to expand it and view its available dimensions (3).
The icon to the left of each field name indicates the field type (4). Hover over a field name to view its description (5), if available.
For computed fields, hover over the fx icon (6) to view the field formula.
If additional field actions are available, icons appear next to the field name:
- Select the Edit icon (7) to update a custom field formula
- Select the Copy icon (8) to duplicate the field.
- Select the API reference icon (9) to view the field definition in the Shopify API documentation. This option is currently only available for the Shopify connector.
