Account types

Better Reports can be used with either a Standard account or an Integrated App account. Each account type provides a different way to access reports and data, with its own configuration options for organisations, data connections, users, and permissions.

This article explains the available account types and how they differ, so you can choose the right option for your needs.

Account structure terminology

Here are some key terms used to describe how accounts are structured in Better Reports:

  • Account type: The method used to access Better Reports, such as a Standard account or an Integrated App account.
  • Connector: The platform Better Reports connects to through an API.
  • Data connection: The connection between a connector and Better Reports. An organisation can have multiple data connections.
  • Organisation: An isolated space with its own data connections, users, and settings.
  • User: An individual who has access to an organisation’s or Integrated App account's reports and data.

Integrated App account (Shopify only)

Integrated App accounts let you access Better Reports directly within the platform you're connected to.

They do not require you to create a separate account in the Better Reports portal.

Standard account (other connectors)

Standard accounts are created on the Better Reports portal. They require you to create an account using your email address and sign in with a password.

Account configuration options

Integrated App account Standard account
Supported connectors Shopify only All connectors
Organistions None (not configurable) Multiple per account
Data connections One connection to the platform Multiple per organisation
Users and permissions Inherited from the platform Must be explicitly invited

Which account type to choose

Standard accounts are suitable if you want to:

  • Connect to a non-Shopify connector.
  • Connect to multiple connectors or create multiple organisations with their own connections.
  • Invite external users or restrict user access to specific organisations.

Integrated App accounts are suitable if you want to:

  • Access your data and reports from within your platform’s interface.
  • Inherit the user access and permission settings configured on your platform.

đź’ˇ Most Shopify connections use an Integrated App account because it allows quick access to reports from within the Shopify admin.
